The old fluorescent lighting in the Vaajakoski sports hall was replaced with LED lighting. Airam Sport luminaires designed for sports facilities were installed. The luminaires are impact‑resistant, meaning they will not break if hit by a ball.

The old fluorescent lighting in the Vaajakoski sports hall was replaced with LED lighting. Airam Sport luminaires designed for sports facilities were installed. The luminaires are impact‑resistant, meaning they will not break if hit by a ball.
Uniform and efficient light
The new luminaires in the sports centre were surface‑mounted in the hall spaces, replacing the old lighting. The lighting design was based on the dimensions of the spaces, the target illuminance levels and data from the previous lighting system. Optimisation of the lighting levels in the sports hall (874 m²) and the wrestling/strength training hall (403 m²) was ensured using DIALux calculations.
For both spaces, Sport luminaires meeting the requirements for sports facilities were selected. When installed in continuous rows with through‑wiring, they provide high‑quality and uniform illumination. The steel‑framed Sport luminaires are ideally suited for surface mounting in renovation projects. The luminaires feature bright anodised aluminium reflectors.
Economic benefits
Typically, lighting accounts for a significant share of energy consumption in sports halls. The lighting renovation delivered savings not only in energy consumption but also through extended maintenance intervals. The lighting lifetime increased from 20,000 hours to over 50,000 hours. The renovation resulted in more efficient, more uniform and fresher lighting, which enhances alertness and provides better conditions for physical activity.
Sport
Sports facilities luminaire Sport is a made of high-quality materials for high spaces. The traditional ball protection grid has been replaced with a clear polycarbonate reflector, which gives the light distribution very evenly over the illuminated area.
Airaline
Airaline series luminaires were also installed on the window wall of the sports hall. The slim, surface‑mounted Airaline provides indirect supplementary lighting via the corridor‑side wall. The Airaline series is designed for general lighting and is well suited for a wide range of spaces, from sports centres to retail environments and industrial applications.
