Pallomylly lighting by Airam
Airam delivered a long‑life LED lighting solution to the Pallomylly sports hall in Myllypuro. To achieve even illumination of the 64 x 100 m football pitch, 80 Highbay deep‑beam luminaires rated at 240 W and 36,000 lm were required.
Pallomylly Hall is one of Helsinki’s two full‑size indoor training halls for football players. In addition to football, the artificial turf hall can be used for other sports such as pesäpallo, baseball, rugby, cricket and ultimate. Schoolchildren from the Myllypuro area also spend a great deal of time there during physical education classes throughout the year.
Replacing the lamps was considered as one option, but by upgrading to modern, energy‑efficient LED luminaires, a high‑quality and energy‑efficient lighting solution was achieved in one step for many years to come.
Energy‑efficient deep‑beam luminaire range
Airam carried out lighting calculations for the site and recommended Highbay deep‑beam luminaires for the hall lighting. Highbay is specifically designed for illuminating high spaces. In addition to sports halls, the Highbay deep‑beam luminaire is well suited for warehouses and lobby areas. The luminaire range is available in three different wattages and can be supplied as on/off models, DALI versions, and with a wireless control solution. The luminaire’s energy efficiency is up to 140 lm/W.
The ball sports hall is in constant use – even during the installation of the new luminaires – although the luminaires were installed using a lift. No changes were required to the lighting control system, as the utilisation rate of the hall is consistently high.
