Airam participated in the lighting implementation of a school and multipurpose center located in Central Finland. The newly constructed school center Valo (light), was completed in spring 2025. As autumn arrived, the school community began the academic year in new facilities, where lighting was implemented using Airam luminaires controlled via Casambi.
Lighting Choices Based on Space Requirements
The school center includes a wide variety of spaces, each with different lighting needs. The luminaires were selected from Airam’s product range primarily based on the specific requirements of each space. A key common factor in the selection was the integration of the luminaires into a wireless Casambi network. Wood materials were used as surface finishes in shared areas, and lighting choices were made to highlight these materials.
Modular Luminaires for Different Spaces
Plano Pro delivers uniform illumination
The most important spaces in the school, such as classrooms, are illuminated with the glare-free Plano Pro. Plano Pro is a modular luminaire that produces uniform light and has an excellent UGR value (< 19). It also has a high color rendering index, making it a great choice for craft classrooms.
Plano is used for general lighting in the lobby
The energy-efficient Plano was chosen as the general luminaire for corridors and lobbies. Recessed into the ceiling, Plano is a cost-effective and maintenance-free solution that provides smooth and pleasant lighting.
The Ebba luminaire features glare-free lens optics
Ebba, equipped with deep optics, is perfectly suited for the school’s modern meeting rooms. The white ceiling-mounted luminaire with light lines blends seamlessly into the structure. Its glare-free lens optics and excellent UGR value ensure minimal discomfort glare.
Lighting Choices Highlight Materials
The staircases of the three-story school center feature extensive use of wood materials. Natural light enters through high-placed windows. A round Puck luminaire was chosen for the main staircase and dining area ceilings. It provides even lighting from top to bottom and complements the organic wooden surfaces. The lowest level of the same staircase is illuminated by a wall-mounted Vario luminaire. Its downward-facing indirect light enhances safety and highlights the natural wood slat wall.
Wireless Control
Airam implemented the lighting for the Valo school center. Lighting choices were made based on the specific needs of each space with a user-centric approach. Classrooms are illuminated with Plano Pro, who’s low UGR value ensures minimal glare. The school’s lighting is controlled via the wireless Casambi system, offering a user-friendly and reliable solution. The luminaires highlight the natural materials in the cozy interiors. The result is modern, purposeful, and energy-efficient lighting.

The Vario luminaire is installed in the stairwell with a wall bracket. It provides indirect lighting, highlighting the natural material of the wall.
Vario luminaires are designed and manufactured at Airam’s factory in Lahti. The product has been awarded the Finnish Key Flag Symbol.
